For Kathryn M. Larkin, it is all about the community. As a strong, friendly
educational leader, Larkin has built her career on three principles:
- Seeking a quality education for each student
- Fair treatment and respect for students, staff, partents and community members
- A supportive, shared and focused leadership style that engages students, parents,
staff and community around common goals.
Her philosophy has seen her succeed not only as an educator, but also as Principal of Alba
Public School. Her passion for education and creativity has earned Larkin the trust and
respect of Alba’s students, parents and staff. Most recently, she was key to the Alba
School’s prestigious affirmation as a member of the “Coalition of Essential Schools.”
Having taken the poorest school district in Michigan to one that has achieved this caliber has
taken superior leadership and insight to address a wide variety of educational challenges.
Larkin has a knack for bringing success to schools through efforts as Grant Writer/Director,
School Improvement Chairperson, Gifted/Talented Coordinator, Professional Development Director,
Curriculum Director and Summer School Director.
Members of her Northern Michigan community are also familiar with Larkin as she serves in
various capacities with the Comprehensive School Reform Organization, Michigan Coalition
of Essential Schools, Michigan Reading Association, Michigan Science Teachers Association,
Michigan Council of Social Studies, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development,
Central Michigan University Alumni Association and Girl Scouts.
Larkin earned her Bachelor of Arts and Elementary Teacher Certification from the University of
Michigan, and holds a Masters in Educational Leadership (with a focus on Elementary Education)
from Central Michigan University.
